Owners Roland Howell & Ron Rice met in 1979. Both found a passion for photography at a young age and now have turned that passion into a profession and business.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I began my interest in photography when I was 10, and my parents bought me a dark room kit. Being able to develop my own black & white pictures (mostly of my Dog Flipper) was so much fun and was really the beginning of my love for photography. From there, I went to my first Instant Film Polaroid camera; a color picture developed right in front of you, Wow! I was really hooked and spent many years and many cameras taking photographs of family and friends. Many years of traveling, scuba diving, and doing underwater photography fed that passion even more.
I’ve always been a very social person which led me into a career in the Cosmetology business. Ron and I started our own successful hair salon (Port Of Hair), in 1980. We never gave thought to opening our own photography business at the time, but we would've probably loved that. After 35 years in business, we decided to take photography classes and spent quite some time educating ourselves about the professional photography industry. We have really enjoyed this journey as we built our Young Business
I found that I absolutely love the connection with my clients and the camera lens. I really feed off their energy. When I’m photographing someone, I get such an amazing feeling knowing I’m capturing a special moment in my clients’ lives.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
From a young age, I’ve also enjoyed Photography.
My first camera was a Brownie Hawkeye which I used to take pictures at many events in my hometown of Tuscaloosa, Roll Tide!
As a child, some of my favorite memories are of my family’s yearly vacations at a house directly on Panama City Beach Florida. I remember loving to take pictures of the sea shells that I found, seagulls in flight, and beautiful sand dunes covered in thick stands of waving sea oats which you don’t see much of anymore.
Being from a family of hairdressers (two of my three sisters are cosmetologists), I have held my license for 43 years. All of my professional life I always appreciated the art and elements of design & composition that apply to both photography and cosmetology.
Travel and scuba diving are my two passions which both lend themselves to photography. We have had many great underwater experiences with the opportunity to photograph and capture many breathtaking images. Now I want to use my talents to help clients capture their experiences and happy moments to create treasured memories.
We would love to have the chance to capture your special moments.
